"NAPLAN Testing" commences for students in NSW!

NAPLAN Testing

Today marks the commencement of NAPLAN testing for over 400,000 students in primary and high schools across more than 3,000 educational institutions in NSW.

NSW students constitute a considerable percentage of students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 who will be taking tests nationwide in the upcoming nine days.

Schools will now be required to administer tests in Term 1 instead of Term 2 for the second consecutive year, and their performance will be evaluated against enhanced literacy and numeracy standards.

The revised guidelines were put into effect in 2023, and New South Wales schools have successfully adjusted to the earlier assessments, maintaining a high level of engagement throughout the state.

Schools in New South Wales can anticipate the arrival of their school's results at the commencement of Term 2, guaranteeing that students can promptly receive focused assistance.

The outcomes will be documented in accordance with the recently implemented proficiency criteria in 2023, encompassing four levels of accomplishment for every academic year. These levels supersede the previous scale, which assessed performance across six bands.

The revised reporting system is designed to enhance schools' ability to pinpoint students in need of extra assistance, as well as those who are meeting or exceeding academic standards.

NAPLAN serves as a tool utilized by educators to evaluate the advancement of students.

The NAPLAN assessment period spans nine days, concluding on Monday, March 25, 2024. For additional details, please refer to the NESA website at nsw.gov.au.

Prue Car, the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning, stated:

"Best wishes to our students who are getting ready to take their NAPLAN exams starting today."

NAPLAN aids in developing a comprehension of the current academic standing of our students. I am aware that our educators utilize this data in conjunction with other evaluations and reports to attain optimal results for our students.

The importance of literacy and numeracy as the building blocks of education is well recognized by the NSW Government. Hence, we have extended the timeline for teachers and schools to effectively incorporate the new NSW curriculum, which will be fully implemented by 2027.

It is imperative for us to guarantee that our students possess the necessary skills, which is precisely why we are dedicated to providing an unparalleled curriculum.
