Nearly half of young people gambled in the past year, survey shows

A third of people aged 16-35 started the habit before reaching 18, survey says, and younger start linked to addiction as adults

About a third of young adults who gambled in the last year started punting before the age of 18, and those who start young experienced greater harms from gambling as an adult.

Those are the results of a study by the Australian Gambling Research Centre (AGRC), based at the government’s Australian Institute of Family Studies, which adds further evidence of gambling as a public health problem.
