Pitch Music Festival Warns of Fire Danger, Urges Attendees to Postpone Arrival
Pitch Music & Arts Festival is recommending attendees to postpone their arrivals at the Moyston venue following guidance from the Country Fire Authority (CFA).
The weather forecast for Melbourne during this extended weekend shows temperatures of 37, 37, and 36 degrees Celsius, while in Moyston, located over 200 kilometers from central Melbourne, temperatures are predicted to reach 37, 35, and 34 degrees Celsius. Some regions are anticipated to exceed 40 degrees.
Due to the hot and arid conditions – with Victoria experiencing minimal rainfall since mid-February – the CFA has declared an Extreme Fire Danger Rating for the Southwest Weather District. Additionally, a Total Fire Ban is currently in place.
The Pitch Music & Arts Festival website is within the Extreme Fire Danger Rating for the Southwest Weather District. As per a post from the festival organizers, the CFA recommends that if you are already at the venue, it is safest to depart early in the morning.
Additionally, Pitch suggests postponing your visit to the festival if you intend to go there today. The festival has confirmed that there are no current fires in the vicinity. Nevertheless, there were fires in neighboring areas only a week ago, which may cause some individuals to feel uneasy.
Music programming schedule changes will occur throughout the day. See Pitch's full statement for more details.
Pitch's statement has been viewed by thousands of individuals and garnered more than 650 comments, with the majority expressing disappointment over the festival cancelled or rescheduled.
Some have inquired about the festival's evacuation procedures in case of emergencies, refund policies, and the status of shuttle buses. The scheduled shuttle bus services to the event have been called off for today and are set to recommence tomorrow.
Social media reports suggest that individuals in the area have been without phone signal since yesterday. They are worried that their loved ones may not have received the warnings. Pitch reassured worried individuals that critical information has been communicated on-site as well.
The set times for Pitch Festival 2024 were released last week, but followers of their Instagram account would have noticed that the set times have since been updated.
For every food item sold at the on-site Community BBQ, Pitch will donate $1 to support the rebuilding and recovery of the bushfire-affected community of Pomonal. Festival attendees are urged to help by buying burgers, sausage sizzles, and bacon and egg rolls from the community BBQ.
