The Oscar for best original screenplay awarded to "Anatomy of a Fall"

The Oscar for best original screenplay is awarded to Anatomy of a Fall

Justine Triet and Arthur Harari, her writing collaborator, were honored with the prestigious Oscar for their exceptional original screenplay, "Anatomy of a Fall" at the esteemed 96th Academy Awards.

Triet serves as the director of the drama centered around a woman, portrayed by Sandra Hüller, who faces allegations of murdering her spouse. Triet and Hariri emerged victorious in a competitive field that included David Hemingson for The Holdovers and Celine Song for Past Lives. Notably, Anatomy of a Fall becomes the first foreign-language film to secure a win in this category since Parasite in 2019.

Anatomy of a Fall has experienced a remarkable awards season so far. Following its triumph at the Cannes film festival in May, where it secured the prestigious Palme d'Or, the film went on to win six European film awards, six Césars, two Golden Globes (including best screenplay), and a Bafta for best original screenplay. Unfortunately, it was unable to contend for the best international film Oscar, as France, its home country, chose to submit the foodie romance film, The Taste of Things, for consideration instead.

Triet expressed her gratitude towards the Academy and expressed her wish that the victory would assist her in overcoming her mid-life crisis. She proceeded to compare the elegance of the evening with the challenges she faced while writing the film. "Being confined to the house during lockdown with two children engrossed in cartoons for tranquility. The boundary between work and changing diapers is blurred."
